Vienna girls win Battle of Maries County

One week after Belle’s Tigers and Vienna’s Eagles did battle for Maries County hardwood bragging rights, Maries County Advocate Battle of Maries County basketball action shifted to Belle High School Friday night for the girls contest between Vienna’s Lady Eagles and the host Belle Lady Tigers.

Vienna jumped out to a 14-2 lead after one quarter before taking a 30-15 halftime lead on the road in western Maries County.

In spite of only being outscored 37-33 in the second half, Belle could not overcome a slow offensive start before seeing Vienna claim Battle of Maries County hardware by a final score of 67-48.

Aubrey Schwartze led Vienna with a game-high double double of 35 points and 18 rebounds.

Ella Hollis added 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Jaedyn Schell chipped in five points

followed closely by Aubrey Reeves with three points on a second-quarter 3- pointer.

Madison Weeks rounded out Vienna’s scoring on a first-quarter bucket for two points.

Anastyn Lansford led Belle with 18 points and six rebounds while Saige Garner also scored in double digits with 12 points.

Zoe Camden chipped in eight points to go along with six points and seven rebounds from Victoria Busch.

Aubrey Rehmert rounded out Belle’s scoring with four points and a team-high nine rebounds.

KC Curler’s Vienna Lady Eagles opened their portion of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2 District 9 Girls Basketball Tournament last night (Tuesday) at Laquey High School against Richland’s Lady Bears.

A victory would advance them to the district semifinals tomorrow (Thursday) night against the top-seeded Linn Lady Wildcats.

Belle’s Lady Tigers will open play in the MSHSAA Class 3, District 3 Girls Basketball Tournament at Bourbon High School tomorrow (Thursday) night in semifinal action against either the host Lady Warhawks or Kingston at 5 p.m.
