During the week of May 29, Lauren Libbert attended MU Animal Science Leadership Academy. There she learned about the animal science industry and the mass amounts of careers available within the industry.
During the week of June 7, Ava Kloppel attended AOI (Area Officer Institute) at Camp Rising Sun where she bettered her leadership skills so they could be applied to our Area XIV FFA Association.
Brooke Campbell had the amazing opportunity to attend HYMAX Academy on June 14-16 where she learned how to better her Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE), how agriculture is so important, and how to better advocate for it.
On July 1, the officers got together at school and worked hard to plan an amazing year for the FFA Chapter.
On July 29, the officer team headed to Springfield for their officer retreat. We went to Wonders of Wildlife at the Bass Pro Shop and then headed to Big Shots Golf where we played some golf and got lunch. To end the day, we got ice cream.
Mrs. Schwatze has been conducting SAE visits with the Ag students to make sure everything is going well with their SAEs as well as updating the kids’ record books.
New Business
On Aug. 13, Ava Kloppel will attend the Missouri State Fair work day for area officers. Best of luck to Brooke Campbell, Grace Veasman and Rebecca Miller, all representing Vienna FFA and showing Livestock at the State Fair this year.
On Aug. 15, Maries R-1 will be having its open house. Ag students are encouraged to stop by the ag room to talk to Mrs. Schwartze during the Open House.
Aug. 19 is Maries R-1’s first day of school. We are excited to see everyone after an amazing summer.
On Aug. 21, the officers have a 7 a.m. officer meeting and then that day during Eagle Time we will have our first Chapter meeting and ice cream social.
Aug. 22 is Barn Clean-Up for any 4-H or FFA member showing at the Maries County 4-H and FFA Livestock Expo. Be there at 6 with shovels and/or pitchforks.
Maries R-1 will not be in session on Aug. 29-30 due to the Maries County Fair.
Thursday, Aug. 29, 8-9 a.m. is Ham and Bacon check-in and livestock entries are to be in place by 6 p.m. The rabbit and chicken show starts at 7 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 30 kicks off with our livestock show starting at 8 a.m. Our Supporter’s dinner will be that evening at 5 and the awards and sale will begin at 6. After 10 p.m., all livestock will be released to go and everyone is responsible for cleaning their stall.
