Winning the consolation championship over the weekend at Eugene’s Baseball Bash tournament, Cory Nicholson’s Vienna Eagle fall baseball team will look to improve on that showing in their annual fall baseball classic this weekend.

In their 12-1 victory Saturday for consolation over Pilot Grove, Vienna broke a 2-0 game through five innings wide open with a 10-run top of the sixth inning at Eugene.

Sending 15 batters to the plate, Every Eagle scored a run including Lucas Magner, Colin John, Bayrd Vanscoy, Landon Kloeppel, Will Veasman, Eli Hayes, Duncan Wilkinson, Tanner Nichols and Deekin Wagner.

Leading off the game with a double, Magner scored on a RBI double from John breaking the scoreless tie in the top of the first inning against Pilot Grove.

Other than a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the second inning, Vanscoy pitched a solid game allowing just one run on four hits and two walks in addition to nine strikeouts.

Remaining 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning, Vienna doubled their lead when Veasman reached on an error and scored on a Hayes RBI single.

Against Pilot Grove, Hayes led the Eagle offense with three hits, three RBIs and a run scored.

Magner, John and Wagner each also had multi-hit games with two.

Falling 5-4 to Eugene in their tournament opener, Vienna looked to bounce back in the consolation semifinals against Tuscumbia’s Lions.

Scoring five runs in the first inning, Vienna eventually went on to mercy rule Tuscumbia 15-0 in four innings.

Veasman pitched three and two-thirds innings to earn the win allowing no runs on four hits to go along with five strikeouts.

Magner walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning against Tuscumbia before scoring on a John two-run home run.

Vanscoy, Kloeppel and Veasman also crossed the plate in the bottom of the first inning giving Vienna a 5-0 lead.

After Veasman struck out the side in the top of the second, Vienna’s offense went back to work in the bottom half of the second inning.

Three hits and two walks led to four more Eagle runs and a 9-0 Vienna lead through two innings.

Four walks, two hits and a hit batter helped the Eagles add five runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 14-0 lead over Tuscumbia.

Needing just one run to end the game in the bottom of the fourth, Magner drew his fourth walk of the game before scoring on a Gavin Schwartze RBI single.

Wilkinson and John each had two hits to lead the Eagles while Wilkinson drove in four runs and John drove in a pair.

Sam Rowden also drove in three RBIs to go along with a hit and two runs scored.
