VIENNA — Vienna has a new mayor. Tim Schell was the write-in candidate who emerged victorious against fellow write-in candidates David Juergens, Dustin Foster and Kevin Hayes. Schell received 43 votes or 70.49 percent of the 61 votes cast. Juergens received 13 votes (21.31 percent), Foster received two votes and Hayes received two votes. Laura Stratman, who did not declare as a candidate, received one vote.
Schell, 48, has permanently resided in Vienna for 32 years. He works for the Department of Agriculture as a consumer protection specialist inspecting slaughterhouses and processing plants throughout the state.
“Thank you to everyone who voted,” he said. “I will do my best to represent our beautiful town of Vienna.”
In the alderman races, Reva Hutchison ran uncontested to retain her North Ward seat. She received 35 votes. The only candidate for the South Ward seat, write-in Charles Davis, received 14 votes.
The officials were sworn in at the city meeting on April 10 at city hall.
Vienna voters also voted to pass a three percent sales tax on marijuana sales in the city. There were 57 “yes” votes (80.28 percent) and 14 “no” votes. Right now, there are no businesses licensed to sell marijuana in the city limits.
