The Vichy Community Park was not able to host its Old Fashioned Fourth of July fundraiser this year, an event that has been a Maries County destination since 2010. The event was canceled because of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Instead, the park board will be holding a carry-out breakfast at the Vichy Volunteer Firehouse on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 7 a.m. to noon. Park Board President Roger Pruett said it will be a full breakfast of pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and bacon and eggs.
The raffle for the Henry rifle the park board members have been selling also will be drawn for at noon at the Nov. 7 event.
Pruett said they need more volunteers for the community park board. He said having the park is a wonderful thing, but it is not kept up by itself. “We need the community behind us,” he said. There will be an election of officers in February and they need more people to get involved and attend meetings to they can be eligible to be board members. The park reorganized 12 years ago and the promoters want to continue to have events at the park and for ball teams to come in and use the ball field.
