VHS Track wins four events at Eugene

After opening the month of April at Linn in a rescheduled meet, Vienna High School (VHS) track and field competed in meets last Tuesday at School of the Osage and Thursday at Eugene.

At Eugene, Vienna won three events individually along with the girls 4x400-meter relay in a winning time of 4:54.80 by the Lady Eagle quartet of Aubrey Reeves, Jaedyn Schell, Andrea Novak and Madison Weeks.

Freshman Cooper Auten won the lone event on the track for the Eagles with a first-place time of 11:51.41 in the boys 3200-meter run.

In the field, two VHS athletes won their respective events.

Danniel Casey topped the field in the boys javelin by nearly four meters with a winning throw of 37.55m.

Riley Rosentreter claimed the girls pole vault with a winning clearing height of 2.60m.

Max Steffen scored the lone second-place finish for Vienna’s boys at Eugene clearing 1.77m in the boys high jump.

Ava Kloeppel was Vienna’s lone second-place finisher on the girl’s side with a throw of 10.46m in the discus.

Kamden George started a slew of third-place finishes for VHS with a time of 50.80 in the 300-meter hurdles while Aubrey Reeves was also third in the girls 300m hurdles in a time of 1:06.01.

Claudia Wieberg (1.37m in the high jump), Auten (5:22.10 in the 1600m run) and Casey (11.98m in the shot put and 32.64m in the discus) also placed third for Vienna in their respective events.

Weeks finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 9.15m to go along with Novak’s fourth-place time of 13.91 in the 100m dash.

BHS Track at Fatima

Four days removed from solid showings at Linn, Samantha Eads’ Belle High School track squads returned to Osage County last Tuesday to compete in the Rick Buersmeyer Invitational at Fatima High School in Westphalia.

Senior high jumper Keith Rose posted the best finish for Belle taking third in the boys high jump with a clearing height of 1.77m.

Picking up nine team points in the boys 3200m run, senior Corey McDaniel took fourth in a time of 12:09.24 while sophomore teammate Baylar Smith was seconds behind him in a fifth-place time of 12:13.73. Corey also just missed scoring in the 1600m run with a ninth-place time of 5:32.75.

Will Doss also just missed scoring points and a top-eight finish with a ninth-place mark of 31.43m in the boys discus.

Lukas Smith sprinted his way to a 13th-place time of 13.13 in the boys 100m dash.

Tajel McDaniel had the best finish of the meet at Westphalia for the Lady Tigers with a ninth-place time of 15:46.76 in the girls 3200m run.

Olivia Koch’s best finish at Fatima came in the girls long jump with a 13th-place mark of 3.99m.

BHS track will compete tomorrow (Thursday) in Cuba.
