Fresh off a district title last Saturday at South Callaway High School in Mokane, Vienna Eagle track and field returned there over the weekend for one of four MSHSAA Class 1 Sectional track meets.

Represented in 16 events at sectionals, Vienna High School track and field athletes will be competing in 14 events come Saturday during the MSHSAA Class 1 Track and Field Championships at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium.

Before the running events on the track took place, Vienna had their first state qualifier.

Sophomore Riley Rosentreter won the Class 1 Girls Pole Vault clearing 3.03 meters becoming the first Lady Eagle to qualify for state on Saturday.

While Rosentreter won the pole vault, Eagle junior Janis Hubert was competing in the triple jump.

Taking third with a leap of 11.60m, Hubert became the first Eagle to advance to state.

A couple hours later, Rosentreter gained some company in the person of Andrea Novak.

Novak placed second in the Class 1 Girls Long Jump with a mark of 4.43m.

While Novak was over at the long jump, three other Eagles were competing in additional field events during the same time frame.

Nathan Kleffner (1st, 1.80m) and Max Steffen (3rd, 1.72m) qualified for state in the high jump with their top-three finishes.

Danniel Casey will join the high-jumping duo at state thanks to his second-place throw of 35.85m in the boys discus.

At high noon, it was time for Vienna to make their presence known on the track.

Competing first in the boys 4x800-meter relay, the Eagle foursome of Caleb Horman, Jehoshua Casey, Duncan Wilkinson and Wyatt Coons posted a third-place time of 8:56.22 to qualify for state this Saturday.

Breaking 17 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, Vienna senior Mike Andrews won a sectional title with a time of 16.69. Kamden George also placed seventh in the 110m hurdles in a time of 18.79.

Already off to state in the 110m hurdles, Andrews looked to make it two events racing in the 100-meter dash.

Placing seventh in 11.72, Andrews had two more chances to qualify for state later in the meet during the 4x100-meter relay and the 300-meter hurdles.

Placing fourth in 1:38.03, the VHS squad of Jehoshua Casey, Coons, Spencer Magner and Kleffner became the second Eagle relay team to advance to state.

Seeing Rosentreter advance to state in the girls pole vault, Evan Casey looked to do the same in the boys pole vault.

Clearing 3.08m, Evan was one of four athletes to make that height. Having less misses at previous bars, the Eagle senior placed third to advance to state.

Shifting back to the track, Horman looked to qualify for state as an individual competing in the boys 1600-meter run.

Breaking the five-minute mark, Horman posted a fourth-place time of 4:58.19 to qualify for state in his second event come Saturday in Jefferson City.

With two Eagle relay team already qualified, the boys 4x100-meter relay squad looked to make it three-for-three.

Sprinting to a second-place time of 46.89, the VHS quartet of Jehoshua Casey, Andrews, Coons and Kleffner added another event to their already busy day Saturday at state track in Jefferson City.

Already off to state in two events, Andrews looked to make it three with a top-four finish in the 300m hurdles.

Placing second in a time of 43.70, Andrews will have three chances to end his Vienna High School track career Saturday with a state medal.

In the last set of field events from South Callaway, Vienna had athletes competing in the boys long jump and javelin.

Qualified for state in three events, Kleffner went for four in the long jump.

Placing second with a leap of 6.20m, the Eagle senior will have four shots at a state medal on Saturday.

Danniel Casey looked to add to his second-place finish in the discus with a top-four mark in the javelin.

Just missing state by five centimeters, Danniel placed fifth with a throw of 40.94m in the javelin.

With three Eagle relay teams already off to state, it was finally time for the boys 4x400-meter relay to conclude the meet.

Taking fourth place in 3:47.02, the VHS foursome of Jehoshua Casey, Horman, Magner and Coons will join their other three relays teams at the state meet Saturday in Jefferson City.
