Coming off a 4-0 shutout on the road at Jamestown last Thursday, Chandler Harker’s Vienna Eagle softball team went into the Richland Softball Tournament Saturday looking to add more hardware to an already crowded trophy case.

Starting the tournament off with a third meeting against Cuba’s Lady Wildcats, Vienna quickly erased an early 2-0 deficit before going on to defeat their Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) foes 18-5 in five innings.

Kayla Hertzing led the Eagles with four hits, four runs batted in (RBI) and two runs scored.

Kadence George and Riley Rosentreter added three hits each.

Rosentreter added three runs scored and three RBIs to her three hits.

Jenna Wiles and Madison Weeks also recorded multi-hit games against Cuba with two apiece.

Wiles had a run scored and two RBIs while Weeks added a RBI and two runs scored to her two hits.

Eva Hollis and Kadence George each also scored three runs for Vienna against Cuba.

Abrea Simmons earned the complete-game victory allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and no walks to go with seven strikeouts.

Kicking off the afternoon portion of tournament softball at Richland, Vienna took on Crocker.

Using an eight-run third inning, Vienna once again needed only five innings for another tournament victory by a 12-1 final score over the Lady Lions.

Eva Hollis led the VHS offense with four hits, two runs scored and three RBIs. Two of those hits were triples for Hollis.

Simmons also added two hits, two runs scored and a RBI.

Weeks had Vienna’s other multi-hit game against Crocker with two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Salene George also crossed the plate twice for VHS.

Scoring single runs for Vienna against Crocker were Kadence George, Allison Buschmann, Rosentreter and Terra Huffman.

Adelynn James picked up her first varsity victory against Crocker pitching all five innings allowing a run on three hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts.

Facing the host Lady Bears looking to clinch the tournament championship, Vienna turned an early 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead after one inning.

From there, they scored some much-needed insurance runs in the third and fourth innings before holding on for a 9-5 victory over Richland in five innings due to the tournament time-limit rule.

In Vienna’s four-run bottom of the first against Richland, Kadence George, Eva Hollis, Rosentreter and Salene George all singled and scored.

Jena Wiles singled and scored Vienna’s run in the bottom of the second inning when Kadence George reached on an error.

Wiles, Weeks and Kadence George also crossed the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning before Richland rallied for four runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Eva Hollis pitched all four innings for the win allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts.

Vienna will host their 14th Annual Softball Tournament with games beginning at 9 a.m.
