VHS 2021 graduation slated May 16

VIENNA — The annual commencement ceremonies for the Vienna High School Class of 2021 is scheduled for Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at the high school gym. There are 38 students in the Class of 2021.

At the school board’s March meeting, High School Principal Ian Murray informed the school board the plan is to have graduation in the gym, pending Covid-19 numbers at that time.

Board member Dave Long asked if the number of people will be limited at the graduation in the gym and Murray said no. Long said he would like to see it held at the ball diamond as they did last year. Murray said it was nerve racking having it outdoors as so much equipment/chairs/stage had to be transported to the park and put together, and there was the fear of it raining on the graduation event.

Another event of note Murray reported is the recognition assembly for the 1A VHS Eagles State Softball Champs, which is set for April 20 at 6 p.m. in the gym. Not all details are finalized.

Also in his report, Murray said they are gearing up to take the end of course (EOC) tests and it will be the biggest group Maries R-1 has ever had taking the tests on April 19.

Murray said they are working hard to get all of the students registered for next year’s classes. His goal is when the students leave campus on the last day of this school year, they will know what classes they will be taking during the 2021-2022 school year.
