VIENNA — Vienna Elementary School Principal Shanda Snodgrass recognized the school’s knowledge bowl team during the most recent Maries R-1 Board of Education meeting on April 14.
Vienna took second place in the first Show-Me Central Conference Knowledge Bowl at Freshwater Church in Jefferson City in March. The third-grade team consisting of Liam Cohlmia, Grayson Gregory, Noralynne James, Raelynne James and Maebri Lanning; the fourth-grade team consisting of Elayna Bresnahan, Matthew Campbell, Charles Ellis, Eligh Grant and Savannah Wann and the fifth-grade team consisting of Aniyah Griffin, Thomas Hoelscher, Tanner James, Macey Martin and Kyler Miller all placed second. The sixth-grade team consisting of Jennifer Deeken, Elise Kilmer, David Martin III, Bryleigh Oakes and Rowan Walker placed third.
Spring parent-teacher conferences had a 97 percent attendance rate. Eight of the 13 elementary school classes had 100 percent attendance, and only six students were unrepresented at the meetings.
Fifth-grade students had a sixth-grade orientation that included an introduction to band class.
Thirteen elementary school classes participated in the embryology project through the University of Missouri Extension, which allowed the classes to monitor eggs to see when they hatched.
First-grade students had a family night on April 15 and took a field trip to Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City on April 17. Other recent field trips included the fourth-grade trip to Cub Creek Camp on May 6 and the third-grade trip to the Missouri Capitol on May 8. Second-grade students will visit Meramec Caverns on May 15.
The third, fourth and fifth-grade spring concert and art show was at 6 p.m. on May 5.
The Kindergarten Round-Up was on April 24. Developmental indicators for the assessment of learning (DIAL) screenings were the first two days of May.
Third-grade through fifth-grade students participated in a MAP test promotion assembly on April 22. Testing lasted from April 28 through May 2.
The i-Ready diagnostic test for kindergarten through second-grade students occurred from May 5 through May 9.
Track and Field Day for kindergarten through second-grade students was on May 12. Third through fifth-grade students will participate on May 14.
Several Vienna teachers received Educator of the Year nominations from the region’s Missouri State Teachers Association. Elementary school teachers Nichoel Snodgrass, Amber Schell and Sara Campbell were nominated along with middle school teacher Casey Curler and high school teacher Melanie Snodgrass. Community member Tara Beltz also received a nomination for the Friend of Education award.
Snodgrass also recognized counselor Alyssa Smith, first-grade teacher Rachel Williams and kindergarten teacher Shayla Willoughby for attending the meeting.
