Tigers, Eagles claim team hardware during VHS Black and Gold Invitational

Last Tuesday at Vienna High School, track teams from Belle and Vienna looked to keep as many medals and plaques as possible inside Maries County.

Vienna’s Eagles, Belle’s Tigers and Vienna’s Lady Eagles placed in the top two of their respective team standings to leave VHS with plaques.

Topping the boys team standings with 123 points, Vienna finished ahead of Belle, (93), Chamois (90), Crocker (89), Calvary Lutheran (70), Stoutland (64.5), Newburg (49), Iberia (37), Dixon (37), Missouri School for the Deaf (20), Plato (18.5), Jamestown (10) and Richland (4).

Vienna’s Hunter Schwartze ran his way to victory with a winning time of 55.59 in the  boys 400m dash.

Belle’s Malachi Fredendall (2nd, 55.94) and Connor Weigel (6th, 59.31) picked up team points for the Tigers in the event.

Miles Frey won the boys 800m run for the Tigers in a time of 2:16.01 leading six Maries County runners in the event.

Finishing behind Frey were Vienna’s Cooper Auten (4th, 2:19.07), Belle’s David Skaggs (5th, 2:20.98), Belle’s Barrett Finnegan (12th, 2:35.99), Vienna’s Pake Matson (15th, 2:49.56) and Vienna’s Ben Murray (17th, 3:09.97).

Auten won the boys mile for the Eagles in a time of 5:09.23 while VHS teammate Bryce Ewers also posted a fourth-place time of 5:34.73 good for more Vienna team points.

Frey added to his 800m run victory with a winning time of 11:59.31 in the boys 3200m run.

Vienna’s Thomas Douglas (4th, 12:39.32) and Tyler Hallahan (6th, 12:45.57) also scored team points for the Eagles in the boys 3200m run.

Sprinting their way to team points in the boys 100m dash were Vienna’s Kevin Russell (3rd, 11.64) and Fredendall (4th, 11.91).

Fredendall (2nd, 24.85), Belle’s Skylar Perkins (4th, 25.70) and Vienna’s Talan Reeves (6th, 25.96) also sprinted to team points for the Tigers and Eagles with top-six times in the boys 200m dash.

Isaiah Spurgeon (6th, 58.22) and Trevor Frey (7th, 1:00.16) scored team points for Belle in the boys 300m hurdles.

Maries County placed first and second in the boys 4x800m relay with Vienna’s foursome of Douglas, Hallahan, Schwartze and Ewers posting a first-place time of 9:35.85 followed by Belle’s second-place time of 9:37.26 from the quartet of Weigel, Finnegan, Perkins and Skaggs.

Vienna also claimed the boys 4x400m relay in a winning time of 3:50.75 from the Eagle quartet of Troy Wulff, Zeb Wiles, Auten and Schwartze.

Belle also placed third in a time of 3:56.44 from the Tiger team of Fredendall, Weigel, Skaggs and Perkins.

Sprinting to a sixth-place time of 52.33 in the boys 4x100m relay was the Belle team of Ethan Bailey, Timothy Schmid, Connor LeRoux and Perkins.

Vienna posted a seventh-place time of 52.60 by the Eagle squad of Waylon Lenning, Ethan LeStarge, Wiles and Reeves.

Picking up a team point in the boys 4x200m relay, Belle’s Tigers posted an eighth-place time of 1:59.78 by the squad of Trevor Frey, Landon Storz, Isaiah Spurgeon and LeRoux.

Russell and Alex Zimmer both cleared 1.72m in the boys high jump placing third and fourth respectively.

Greyson Summerford cleared 2.28m in the boys pole vault for Vienna.

Russell (1st, 6.20m) and Wulff (2nd, 6.05m) claimed the top two spots in the boys long jump for Vienna.

Belle’s Weston Doss (17th, 3.90m) and Ethan Bailey (19th, 3.80m) also competed in the boys long jump for the Tigers.

Miles Frey (6th, 10.67m) and Weigel (8th, 10.55m) scored team points for Belle in the boys triple jump.

Belle’s Brayden Barzee (5th, 10.88m) and Vienna’s Eli Crum (7th, 10.26m) picked up team points for their respective schools in the shot put.

Vienna’s Jordan Hatfield rounded out the top 10 in the boys shot put with a throw of 9.62m.

Crum (2nd, 35.87m), Barzee (4th, 31.40m) and Belle’s Brayden Gibson (5th, 29.90m) helped Maries County claim three of the top five spots in the boys discus at Vienna.

Vienna’s Alex Zimmer placed fourth in the boys javelin with a toss of 38.52m.

Joining their Eagle counterparts in claiming team hardware, Vienna’s Lady Eagles posted 109 points to place second behind Iberia (184) and ahead of Jamestown (92), Richland (57), Dixon (49), Belle (48), Calvary Lutheran (44), Newburg (30), Stoutland (29), Plato (29), Crocker (7), Chamois (2) and Missouri School for the Deaf (2).

Posting high marks in field events helped Vienna’s Lady Eagles placed second behind Iberia.

Kaylee Bresnahan won the girls pole vault clearing 2.59m while Lainey Magner added team points with a fifth-place leap of 4.15m in the girls long jump.

Bresnahan (6th, 8.32m) and Brooke Campbell (7th, 7.48m) scored team points for the Lady Eagles in the girls triple jump.

Aubrey Schwartze (2nd, 10.35m) and Ava Kloeppel (3rd, 10.33m) claimed two of the  top three spots for Vienna in the girls shot put.

Kloeppel (2nd, 29.63m) and Schwartze (4th, 27.79m) also grabbed two of the top four spots for the Lady Eagles in the girls discus.

Belle’s Aubrey Rehmert won the girls javelin with a throw of 34.07m followed by the Lady Eagle trio of Kloeppel (2nd, 31.09m), Schwartze (3rd, 30.15m) and Bresnahan (7th, 21.29m).

Sprinting to second place in the girls 4x100m relay in a time of 56.11 was the Vienna foursome of Ava Smith, Madison Weeks, Jaedyn Schell and Lainey Magner.

Belle’s girls 4x100m squad of Kennady Kinkead, Hayden Fann, Johanna Helmig and Avaya Kitchen posted a sixth-place time of 1:02.04.

Vienna posted second-place times of 4:51.31 in the girls 4x400m relay and 12:35.00 in the girls 4x800m relay.

Lady Eagles competing in the girls 4x400m relay included Jezabel Bordonaba, Weeks, Schell and Smith while Bordonaba, Schell, Weeks and Naomi Clark ran for Vienna in the girls 4x800m relay.

Belle posted a third-place time of 5:01.71 in the girls 4x400m relay by the team of Kenadie Bailey, Ellie Gray, Cloie Schneider and Camden.

They also took third in the girls 4x800m relay in a time of 13:29.00 by Saylor Kent, Ellanor Kent, Bailey and Allaina Moore.

Rounding out Maries County’s contingency of girls relay teams, Vienna placed third in the girls 4x200m relay with a time of 1:58.66 by the squad of Weeks, Smith, Schell and Magner.

Belle’s girls 4x200m relay team of Chloe Jones, Camden, Gray and Rehmert posted a fifth-place time of 2:06.21.
