Making the short trek to Linn Saturday, cross country runners from Belle and Vienna looked to earn another week of practice following the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 1 and 2 District 4 Cross Country Meet at the Linn Athletic Complex.
For three harriers from Belle and the Vienna boy’s cross country team, that goal became reality.
Running first was Belle in the Class 2, District 4 races from Osage County.
Pacing the Lady Tigers was freshman Natalie Gehlert with a sixth-place time of 23:07.7.
Nevaeh Kinsey (23rd), Susie Moman (27th) and Emma White (39th) also ran for the Lady Tigers.
Next in the Class 2 boy’s race, Belle junior Corey McDaniel (11th, 18:46.6) and freshman Baylar Smith (14th, 19:01.4) punched their tickets to state on Friday at Gans Creek in Columbia with top-15 finishes at districts in Linn.
Led by senior Caleb Horman’s third-place time of 18:50.9, Vienna’s boys team of Horman, Duncan Wilkinson, Janis Hubert, Kamden George, Evan Casey and Danniel Casey will represent the Eagles on Saturday afternoon in Columbia at Gans Creek.
Placing second as a team behind Calvary Lutheran (23), Vienna finished with 62 points edging out Smithton (70) and Green Ridge (73) to qualify for state.
