Thomas William “Tommy” Cross, 76, of Dixon, passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 4, 1947, to William Sherman and Ina Maxine (Goodman) Cross at Hancock.
He was united in marriage to Glenda McGriff, April 2, 1994, in Hancock Christian Church.
Tommy was a member of the Hancock Christian Church. He was a 1965 graduate of Dixon High School and a past master of the Arlington Lodge #346 AF & AM recently earning his 50-year pin.
He started working with the family-owned businesses Cross Oil Company and TraveLiner Travel Trailers, as a driver, mechanic, and designer. Tommy was one of the founding members of the Dixon Rural Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for several years. He also worked for the Dixon Police Department. Tommy then went to work with the Missouri State Highway Patrol where he held many titles, and in 1996 graduated from Commercial Vehicle Enforcement continuing his career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a Commercial Vehicle Supervisor until retiring in 2012.
He was preceded in death by parents Bill and Maxine.
Tommy is survived by wife, Glenda of Rolla; daughter, Tracey Bechtel and significant other Chuck Daugherty of Jefferson City; son, Timothy Cross and wife Sandra of Dixon; five grandchildren; step-children, Kristina Mitchell and husband Tommy of Columbia, Matthew Eskridge and wife Shana of Fulton, and Jason Eskridge and wife Rebekah of Evansville, Ind.; and 12 step-grandchildren, Ashlee, Kaitlynn, Rhiannon, Ethan, Grace, Olivia, Madalyn, Preston, Kaleb, Kaden, Konner, and Kollin.
Memorial services were held Friday, Aug. 16, at Martin-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with Bro. Gary Day officiating. Inurnment was in the Seaton Cemetery, Dixon.
