Sylvester Joseph “Vess” Lock, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, at StoneBridge Senior Living-Villa Marie, Jefferson City.
He was born July 21, 1941, to Lawrence Matthew and Bernadine (Meyer) Lock at Jefferson City.
He was united in marriage to Helen Marie Steinman, Aug. 1, 1964, at Argyle.
Vess was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693, Jefferson City.
Vess was employed at the Missouri State Penitentiary, Jefferson City, as a corrections officer until he retired after 20 years.
He was preceded in death by son, Mark Lock; parents, Lawrence and Bernadine; siblings, Wilfred Lock, Jody Fisher, Viola Vivion, David Lock, Mary Ann Fitzpatrick and Alice Daniels.
Vess is survived by wife of 60 years, Helen of their home in Jefferson City; daughters, Lisa Ann Lock of Jefferson City and Micelle Lynn “Shelle” Jacobs and husband Steve of Koeltztown; two grandchildren; and sister, Irene Schoenen of Jefferson City.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Aug. 12, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, with Rev. Basil Tigga as the celebrant and Deacon Michael Brooks assisting. Interment was in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle.
