BLAND — After swearing in three aldermen, the mayor and marshal positions on April 11, Ward 2 Alderman Ken Stanfield, who was not on the April 5 ballot, announced his resignation from the Belle Board of Aldermen.
“I am resigning because of health issues and some personal problems I am trying to deal with,” Stanfield said Thursday, echoing a similar explanation that he gave his fellow board members during the April 11 board meeting.
The April 5 ballot did have one contested alderman race where incumbent Fred Bethmann was voted out and Barbara Howarth won the seat. Bethmann is not eligible to be appointed to the opening left by Stanfield because he is in the wrong Ward.
Mayor Josh Seaver said he has not discussed who could fill the position.
“I have not even really thought about who to appoint into the position yet,” Seaver said. “We are looking for someone who will represent the citizens of Belle.”
Stanfield’s resignation took effect immediately. Aldermen voted 3-0-1 with Stanfield abstaining to accept the resignation.
