The Maries R-2 School District announced on Wednesday that a Belle Elementary staff member has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in quarantine. The staff member was not in direct contact with either another staff member or student, therefore no one outside the staff member’s family has been quarantined as a result of the case.

According to the Sept. 16 letter from district officials, no further action is required at this time, but they encourage parents and guardians to continue to monitor their children for symptoms.

The letter sent to Maries R-2 families follows:

"Dear Maries Co. R 2 Families,
We have been notified by the Health Department that a staff member at Belle Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance with guidelines from the Phelps-Maries County Health Department, the staff member has been quarantined. There were no direct contacts by either another staff member or students. Outside of the staff member’s family, no one has been quarantined as a result of this positive case.
No further action is required at this time, but as always it is best to monitor your child for symptoms and if they exhibit any of the COVID-19 symptoms keep your child home, notify the school and contact your personal health provider.
Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, new loss of taste or smell, fever, chills, headache, muscle ache, sore throat, congestion, nausea or diarrhea. Please keep your child at home if they have these symptoms.
The district is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for students and staff and it is important that we all work together to ensure the situations are handled appropriately. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at lbasham@mariesr2.org.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lenice Basham
Superintendent"
