St. George uses an Easter egg hunt to help two in need

Posted

Two years ago, St. George Parish School in Linn initiated an Easter Egg Hunt as a fundraiser for a local family to help pay for medical needs. This year, the school has continued the hunt and the purpose of supporting someone within our community.
On April 9, junior high students took on the Easter Egg event as one of their acts of service during this Easter season as a reminder of all the good that God has provided.
“It is definitely more than just an opportunity for more candy,” said Principal Lisa Grellner. “This event reminds us of the resurrection and renewing our spirit of service to others, even in every day or every-season activities that we enjoy. Through the generosity of the community, we were able to stuff over 2,300 eggs and raise $744, which also reminds us of how Christ calls the Church to work together to support the whole body.”
Students collected any donated supplies, stuffed eggs, and then distributed and helped students in grades Pre K-5 in the hunt.
This year’s event is in honor of Archie Jaegers and Mrs. Lisa Rickey. St. George planned to support the Jaegers family last year, but could not due to the COVID pandemic.
“We are so appreciative of being able to do this activity this year and for both of our community members,” said Grellner.
Archie is the son of Vickie and Corey Jaegers, and his older brothers attend school at St. George. Mrs. Rickey is a teacher at the school who is currently fighting brain cancer.
“We will be praying for both Archie and Mrs. Rickey,” said Grellner. “We are excited to continue to carry on this tradition at Easter time here at St. George Parish School.”
