I wish I could brag about all we accomplished this week.

Unfortunately, the legislature adjourned early, on Tuesday afternoon, due to the incoming snow and ice. Monday begins with a Republican caucus to discuss the priorities of leadership. How much can we get done in a day and a half?

Fortunately, the Rural Electric Coops were visiting the Capitol on Tuesday to brief legislators on their priorities for this session. HB 1852, a net metering piece of legislation, is of special interest.

The Missouri Farm Bureau also made their rounds to support some agriculture bills. Rural broadband and eminent domain reform are also top priorities.

Our offices were also visited by a home school group looking for support of HB 2369, which would give homeschool families access to district sports programs. I think there needs to be a compromise with the home school kids and the public schools, and I look forward to the debate. 

I also met with some Missouri Realtors, who are concerned about eviction moratoriums, restrictive covenants, and low income housing tax credits.

Constituent calls about AT&T service in a couple of my rural communities gave us the opportunity to open a dialog with the Attorney General’s office. Another constituent contact about the school A+ (scholarship) program created conversations with DESE and Higher Education.

I think the A+ scholarship issue will be resolved quickly. Good cell service in the rural areas is a harder nut to crack.

When we add the passions of other members for their own legislation, each day is full. As the urgency to get something done become more apparent in the weeks ahead, every day will be busy. 

Next week, I expect that the House will debate a supplemental budget bill that will release ESSER III funds to school districts and provide funding for essential state services. I’m looking forward to future conversations, constituent contacts, and committee and floor debates.
