Search for missing person results in drug arrest

Members of the Maries County Sheriff’s Office and LANEG drug task force on July 2 assisted the Osage County Sheriff’s Office and the Mid-Mo Drug Task Force with serving a search warrant for a missing person at a residence on Maries County Road 604.
Osage County Sheriff Mike Bonham said that Kathryn (Katie) Wilson of Linn had been missing for five days when it was reported on June 30 by a family member.
As of Monday, Bonham said Wilson made contact with her ex-husband, who confirmed to the sheriff’s office that she was alive and well. She is no longer being sought as a missing person but she is still wanted on multiple Osage County warrants for failure to appear stemming from charges filed Feb. 26 for burglary and stealing, and for probation violation. She also has a warrant out of Cole County. If you have any information about Katie Wilson, please contact the Osage County Sheriff’s Office at 573-897-0911.
Meanwhile, Maries County Sheriff’s Department Maj. Scott John said on Friday that his officers became involved with the missing persons investigation on Wednesday, June 30, at the request of Sheriff Bonham.
“Osage County contacted us two days ago and reported they had a missing person report, and a cell phone they believed to be belonging to this individual was being pinged at Gieck’s residence,” John said. “Osage County requested we send deputies out to make contact. Ms. (Debbra) Gieck (property resident) was not at the residence. She had some friends that were in the yard and would not let us look.”
On Thursday, Bonham notified Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman and John that they were applying for a search warrant to see if the missing person was at the residence.
“Once they locate her, it’s Sheriff Bonham’s investigation,” John said. “We went with them because the residence was located in our county. While we were assisting them with the search warrant looking for (Wilson) or her cell phones, drugs were located and Ms. Gieck was arrested.”
Gieck, 61, of Dixon, has been charged with three felony counts of possession of controlled substance and the misdemeanors of possession of marijuanna and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was held under a capias no bond warrant issued by Maries County Associate Court Judge Kerry Rowden.
She was held without bond until a hearing on Tuesday, at which time the case was reset to July 13 and bond was denied as the defendant tested positive for methamphetamine. She was on bond at the time of the arrest, the court reported.
