Schaller retiring as court clerk

BELLE — Mayor Steve Vogt announced Sept. 8 that Belle Municipal Court Clerk Barb Schaller, who has been with the city for seven years, has submitted her intent to resign Jan. 5, 2021, and move onto full retirement.

In her letter, Schaller said she is willing to train her replacement or have the mayor and aldermen decide what they wanted to do with the local court.

“The court system is changing and she didn’t want to go through the new training,” Vogt said. “That’s what she meant when she said ‘deciding what you want to do.’”

Aldermen voted 4-0 to approve Schaller’s resignation. Schaller said Oct. 9 that they have interviewed and vetted applicants to take over her position.

“I am not yet training someone,” Schaller said. “We interviewed last week, then will make a recommendation to the city council on Tuesday (Oct.13).”

Schaller said that will she plans to travel, she is going to miss working for the city. She plans to, “see a lot of different states in the United States and work around the community.”

Barb Schaller’s resignation letter follows:

September 4, 2020

Letter of Resignation

Dear Mayor Vogt and City Council:

This is to notify you that I am resigning as the Belle Municipal Court Clerk. My last day of work will be January 5, 2021.

I hope this gives you ample time to decide what you want to do with the Belle Municipal Court and/or to hire/train another person to replace me. I have really enjoyed working for the City of Belle these past seven years and I am truly going to miss it.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to work for you and this community.

Sincerely,

Barb Schaller
