Riley Rosentreter and two Lady Eagle relay teams qualify for state track

Friday will be a long day for five Vienna High School (VHS) track and field athletes.

That is because the events they will compete in during day one of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2 State Track and Field Championships at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium and Licklider Track are widely spread out time wise.

Clearing 2.88 meters in the girls pole vault, Riley Rosentreter will be the first VHS track athlete to compete during the state meet at 9:30 a.m., Friday morning.

Also joining Rosentreter on day one of the state meet will the Lady Eagle 4x400-meter relay team of Tori Schulte, Jaedyn Schell, Madison Weeks and Aubrey Reeves  competing at approximately 5 p.m., late Friday afternoon.

Placing fourth in a time of 4:22.07 over the weekend at sectionals in Monroe City, the Lady Eagles will be looking to either win their preliminary heat Friday or have one of the next six fastest times to advance to Saturday’s finals.

Also taking third Saturday in Monroe City with a time of 10:38.41 was the Lady Eagle 4x800m relay team of Claudia Wieberg, Reeves, Schell and Weeks.

They will compete among the top 16 teams in the state in the Class 2 Girls 4x800m relay Saturday morning at approximately 11 a.m., following the Class 1 Girls 4x800m relay.

For the remainder of the VHS track contingency in Monroe City, finishes outside of the top four meant the end of their respective seasons.

Looking to join their female counterparts, the Vienna boys 4x800m relay team of Duncan Wilkinson, Jackson Kilmer, Spencer Magner and Cooper Auten just missed a spot at state with a fifth-place time of 9:02.67.

Senior Daniel Casey had one chance at state track for VHS competing in the boys javelin Saturday at Monroe City High School.

Placing sixth with a throw of 41.89m. Casey missed the top four and a spot at state by just under 1.5 meters.

Fellow senior Max Steffen was also looking to punch his ticket to state with a top-four finish in the boys high jump.

Clearing 1.84m, Steffen placed sixth missing state my two centimeters with fourth place clearing 1.86m.

Already through to state as a part of two relay teams, Reeves went for a third event in Jefferson City competing in the girls 800-meter run.

Placing sixth in 2:33.72, Reeves’ time was just over three seconds shy of fourth place (2:30.09).

Also taking sixth in 1:53.90 and missing a state berth by over a second was the Lady Eagles 4x200-meter relay.

Freshman Ava Kloeppel had two chances at state competing for Vienna in the girls shot put and javelin.

Placing seventh with a throw of 9.44m, Kloeppel had to withdraw from the javelin due to injury.
