VIENNA — Maries R-1 Superintendent Teresa Messersmith, at the school board’s February meeting, gave the board members an update on the school district’s current construction projects.

Bales Construction Company, Inc. of Waynesville, still has several items to complete on its punch list. With the concession stand project, they are still working on the floor, cabinets and doors. They finished the drop ceiling.

Rommel Doors has a little more to do and they are waiting on an exterior door. There are a few other small things yet to do.

Other information presented in her report to the school board included:

—Messersmith gave a Covid-19 update. Since the last school board meeting, there have been 14 students with positive cases of the virus and two staff members with positive cases.

—The third quarter ends Friday, March 4. Parent-teacher conferences will be via phone on Thursday, March 17 from 1 to 7 p.m. School that day will be dismissed early at 12:56 p.m. There will be no school on Friday, March 18.

—She reported on revenues received. Current local tax money received was $32,359.96, delinquent tax revenue was $5,604.20, surtax revenue was $92.60, Financial Institution Tax (FIT) received was $307.23 with an additional $6.03 in FIT interest, state ECSE revenue was $1,829.16, and food and nutrition payments of $23,726.96.

—Messersmith said the Missouri State Highway Patrol bus inspections will be held in the morning of March 23 at the state’s highway shed in Vienna. Lindell Patterson will assist with the inspections that day. Messersmith said, “Lindell needs a good word. He does a lot for us and always steps up.”

—Other inspections include the on-site visit of the school cafeteria, which Messersmith said went very well with only a few corrective actions. She complimented Amy Rowden for working on this.

The Missouri United School Insurance Council (MUSIC) did an on-site inspection and only a few things were found. Some of the issues Maries R-1 was asked to address were mulch, a flood light,  and in the chemistry lab they asked for labels and an edge on a shelf, a fire extinguisher and an eye wash station that was stopped up.

—Enrollment statistics were reported. Elementary School enrollment is 232 students with 92.49 percent attendance, Middle School enrollment is 95 students with 94.66 percent attendance, and high school enrollment is 163 students with 94.04 percent attendance. Total enrollment is 490 students with an attendance rate of 93.73 percent. Messersmith said the attendance is down a little bit because of Covid-19.
