Publisher replies to concern from reader

Posted

Kelsey, thanks for your concern about my column “A New Adventure.” First of all, my column is placed on the “Editorial/Opinion” page because it is an editorial. It is not a news story. It is not the opinion of the editor (I am the publisher) or anyone else who works for me. That is why my name is on it.

Editorials have been a part of newspapers since the 19th century. It is part of journalism.

In your letter, I feel you accused me of lying and misleading my readers. I wish you would have given an example so I could better defend myself. Knowing that some will disagree with my conclusions, I am conscientious about researching and verifying anything in my column.

From the date of your letter, I assume you are referring to my Aug. 10 column, “No end in sight.” That column includes data from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service, along with a YouTube video by Tony Heller.

I do not make things up. I simply offered data others do not want you to be aware of concerning the environment. Also, I never denied that the climate is changing. I simply don’t buy into the claims that the world will end.

You may not know this, but each of my columns is also on our website. If you look there, you will find links showing where I acquire all my information for each of my columns.

I invite you and anyone else who does not believe what I write to check out these links before accusing me of deceiving my readers.

Thanks again for your letter. It takes a lot of courage to put your name in print and share your opinion.
