Plane mishap at Vichy Airport results in no injuries

Posted

A pilot and an occupant in a small aircraft were not injured when the airplane they were in crashed at the Rolla National Airport at Vichy on Saturday afternoon.

Airport Manager Darrin Bacon said the airplane’s owner, a person from Jefferson City, was doing maneuvers and failed to put down the landing gear. The plane skidded on the airport’s runway and came to a stop. A crane from Gabriele Crane Rental Inc., Rolla, came to the airport and raised up the airplane. The landing gear was put down and the airplane was towed to a hanger.

Bacon said the plane is a North American T-28 which that call a “trainer.” The airplane was made in the 1950’s. This type of airplane was used in Viet Nam by the armed services. This plane had navy insignia.

Bacon said he was glad there were no injuries. The airplane had significant damage.

The Vichy Volunteer Fire Department responded to the airplane crash.
