BELLE — A reported overdose at a Belle residence led to the discovery of multiple illegal substances and the arrest of one man on felony drug charges early Tuesday morning on June 23.
According to law enforcement, the investigation began when emergency responders were dispatched to a home at 206 West Fourth Street in Belle after an individual was found unresponsive. The subject was revived using Narcan and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Following the overdose, the Maries County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant for the residence, which was executed just after midnight on June 24. Belle Marshal Jerry Coborn, Belle Police Officer Erican Sugg, Belle Police Officer Kevin Green, and Maries County Deputy Jay Yelton carried out the operation.
The home, owned by Larry Pack, was suspected of housing a large safe containing narcotics and drug-related items. Upon entry, officers noted a strong odor of marijuana and observed smoking pipes in plain view.
A detailed search of the residence uncovered a variety of illegal substances and drug paraphernalia. Among the items seized were a 4-gram rock of methamphetamine, raw heroin, black tar heroin, and fentanyl; a single heroin capsule; and 52 grams of marijuana. Officers also recovered 10 glass smoking pipes, a scale with marijuana and white powder residue, and a box of plastic baggies commonly used in packaging narcotics.
Additional evidence included a silver container and multiple plastic and glass containers that tested positive for heroin and fentanyl, as well as a Kool-Aid container filled with cash and empty balloons with white powder residue. Deputies also located two bottles suspected to contain gabapentin and a bottle of clonazepam reportedly prescribed for 90 pills, though it contained significantly more. Three cell phones, a hard-drive security system, and a large, empty safe were also removed from the property.
According to a probable cause statement, Pack admitted to officers that marijuana was being sold from the residence. Authorities also allege that he attempted to have individuals remove items from the home before deputies arrived.
Pack was arrested at the scene and charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution.
Marshal Coborn extended his appreciation to Sheriff Mark Morgan, Deputy Yelton, Officer Sugg, Officer Green, and the citizens of Belle and Maries County for their continued support.
“Maries County got the warrant and we assisted,” Coborn said. “They did the initial report and filed the probable cause statement with the prosecutor. ”
“The officer who led the search warrant is very knowledgeable,” Green said. “He was in charge of coordinating the search. Mark Morgan is behind everyone of his officers. Jerry Coborn, our marshal here in Belle, is the same way. We actually have a pretty good meeting before we do each event. Every question will be answered, everything will be conducted and pointed out, and everybody will know their job. It will be a smooth running machine before we leave.”
