Outgoing Belle Fair queen, princess speak about experiences

BELLE — One of the events looked forward to by many fairgoers is the crowning of the Belle Fair Queen and Belle Fair Princess. These coveted titles carry more weight with them than most people realize. Along with the accolades come duties that might seem daunting to those who don’t know what to expect.
“Being the fair queen is hard work, but the commitment is so worth it. As the Belle Fair Queen you will be expected to socialize with the fairgoers, and participate in all the activities the fair has to offer,” said current Belle Fair Queen Taylor Gehlert in a written statement. “This ranges from introducing bands on stage, to handing out awards at the livestock show. The duties of the queen don’t end once the fair is all over, however. You will be expected to continue on the duties of a fair queen as a leader within the community and as a role model for our young and upcoming leaders.”
Gehlert has been happy with her time as fair queen and is looking forward to carrying on the tradition of crowning the new queen during the 2021 Belle Fair.
“When I was crowned as the 2019 Belle Fair Queen I was nothing more than thrilled to represent the community, and also be a role model and leader to the younger generation. One of the biggest joys during my two year reign was meeting new people within the community, and making lifelong friendships. I loved my time as the Belle Fair Queen, but I am so excited to crown someone new that will carry on the tradition,” said Gehlert in a written statement.
The outgoing queen had some words of advice for those who are considering entering the competition to be the next Belle Fair Queen.
“My advice for anyone who is considering running for the Belle Fair Queen is to do it without any hesitation! Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there,” said Gehlert. “The experience itself is so much fun and is something you will remember for a lifetime. A piece of advice for anyone who is considering running this year is to be authentic.”
The Belle Fair Princess has just as much fun, and as many responsibilities, as the queen.
“Having the opportunity to serve as Belle Fair Princess and to also give back to my community has been so rewarding!” said Belle Fair Princess Maddie Roher in a written statement. “One of my favorite things about being princess was getting to experience the fair in several new different ways. The queen and I also got to set up our own trunk at Trunk or Treat on Halloween to hand out candy to all of the kids! This was one of my favorite ways that we got to give back to the community. It was so fun to get to see all the children dressed up on Halloween.”
Roher also encourages other young women to take a chance at being involved in the upcoming competition.
“My advice to any young lady wanting to run for Belle Fair Princess is to go to all of the events you can!! You do not want to miss out on a thing. Do not hesitate to run for princess either, even if you don’t leave with a crown you will leave with a great experience. I was not expecting to be crowned at all and now here we are! It is all exciting and thrilling at the same time. There is no better way to get involved with the fair than to run for Belle Fair Princess or queen,” said Roher in a written statement.
