Nine Maries County basketball players earn All-GVC honors

Postseason honors for basketball players from Belle and Vienna High Schools are still coming in.

After seeing five players earn All-District recognition from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA), coaches from the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) met last Tuesday night in Cuba to select the 2021-22 All-GVC Basketball Teams.

Once voting concluded, nine Maries County basketball players were selected to their respective All-GVC Basketball Teams.

On the girl’s side of the ledger, senior Kadence George was the lone Vienna Lady Eagle on the All-GVC Girls Basketball Team.

George surpassed 1,000 points for her Vienna High School girl’s basketball career while finishing her senior season averaging 16.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.3 assists per game.

She led the team in scoring and steals while her freshman cousin Salene George led the Lady Eagles in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game and assists with 1.4 dimes per contest.

Evin Farris’ Belle Lady Tigers saw three of their players earn All-GVC honors.

Sophomore Natalie Gehlert and junior Hali Naber were selected to the All-GVC First Team while fellow sophomore Nevaeh Kinsey was one of four players to earn All-GVC Honorable Mention status.

Complete statistics from Belle were not available at press time.

Chandler Harker’s Vienna Eagles and Roger Siwak’s Belle Tigers made up nearly a third of the All-GVC selections on the boy’s side.

Right behind Most Valuable Player (MVP) Landon Mabe (Steelville) was Vienna senior Bayrd Vanscoy.

During his senior season, Vanscoy averaged 15.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

He led the team in assists dishing out a season-high 10 assists against Viburnum.

Second on the team in rebounding and scoring to fellow senior Trey Snodgrass, Vanscoy grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds against Salem while racking up a season-high 27 points against Cuba.

Snodgrass led the Eagles averaging 15.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per contest.

He recorded a season and career-high 41 points at in their win at Viburnum in addition to pulling down a season-high 13 rebounds twice in games against Viburnum and Steelville.

Senior Max Steffen rounded out Vienna’s trio of All-GVC Eagles averaging 10.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

Steffen scored a season-high 21 points twice during his senior season in games against Russellville and Versailles.

He also grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds against Helias’ JV Crusaders during the Tipton Tournament.

Belle’s Tigers were represented on the All-GVC squad by first-team selection Justin Lingo and honorable-mention nod Thomas Lingo.

Of the 25 games that statistics were available from, Justin reached double figures in scoring during 13 of those games.

He scored a season-high 25 points against New Bloomfield while pulling down a season-high seven rebounds twice in games against Stoutland and New Bloomfield.

Justin also dished out four assists in games against Viburnum and New Bloomfield.

Reaching double-digit scoring in 11 games, Thomas Lingo posted a season-high 28 points back in late November.

Thomas also pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds twice in games against Viburnum and Calvary Lutheran.

He also amassed a season-high seven assists against Lesterville.
