Moreland arrested again on drug charges

Prosecutor says he’ll seek a prison sentence

Following a search warrant search on Sept. 8 in Belle, a 33-year-old Belle woman who is a persistent offender has been charged with new felony drug charges.

The Maries County Sheriff’s Office reported the sheriff’s SWAT Team served a narcotics related search warrant at the defendant’s resident in Belle. This was undertaken in conjunction with the LANEG Drug Task Force which secured the warrant after an investigation into the primary resident, Megan Moreland, 33, Belle.

Moreland was arrested and charged with two counts of felony possession of controlled substance, class D felonies. She also is charged with the class A misdemeanor of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, prior drug offense.

The sheriff’s office said two other male subjects were arrested at the residence for outstanding warrants unrelated to this search.

Sheriff Chris Heitman said Moreland’s residence on Belle Avenue in Belle has been the site of at least three narcotics-related search warrants in the past five years.  Moreland currently is on probation for her arrest from one of those search warrants. The sheriff said this residence is known to have drug activity and those affiliated with drug activity have been seen coming and going. Law enforcement personnel have been watching this residence and trying to get inside for some time.

“We commend our task force officer for his work resulting in this search warrant and arrest,” the sheriff said.

Maries County Prosecuting Attorney Anthony “Tony” Skouby told the sheriff if Moreland is found guilty, he will seek prison time for Moreland as a result of this arrest.

“She has been given opportunities to change and she has proven she has no intentions of doing so,” the prosecutor said.

Moreland currently is being held in the Maries County Jail without bond by order of Maries County Associate Judge Kerry Rowden.
