Marijuana manufacturing applications unsuccessful

Maries County, at least for the near future, will not have a medical marijuana manufacturing facility located within its borders as the two applicants for facilities, one in Vienna and one in Belle, were not chosen to be among the applicants recently approved.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services issued 86 licenses for medical marijuana-infused products manufacturing facilities announced last week. The products are infused with marijuana or an extract of marijuana. They are eaten or used as oils and concentrates rather than smoked.

The state reported 287 applicants were denied. This included Hippos LLC in Vienna and Tranquil Acres Inc. in Belle.

Hippos was successful in obtaining a cultivation license and the Vienna City Council reported the company may break ground in February and begin operations this spring or summer.

The state defines the medical marijuana cultivation facility as a facility that farms, stores, transports and sells medical marijuana.
