Maries R-2 Board of Education members at the Feb. 23 meeting voted unanimously to allow the 2021 seniors to take the annual Florida trip.
Senior Sponsor Sarah Mouser was present at the meeting to answer questions about the trip if board members had any.
“I had given them a proposal with all the research I’ve done in order to convince them to let us go,” Mouser said after the decision had been made. “Had COVID rates and numbers showing a decline.”
Mouser also included the precautions the group would take and all the activities they planned to do.
For the most part though, board members seemed to have already made up their mind.
“The vote was unanimous in favor of us going,” Mouser said.
One board member said, “if the president can open our borders, then we can go ona trip.”
Another board member said they just returned from Florida and felt comfortable with the group going.
The group already has fundraisers planned.
“We plan to do an easter basket auction and will have hanging baskets that we will start selling March 29 - April 9,” Mouser said. “We are going to try to do a car wash/bake sale on April 17 at Maces, but it’s not official yet.”
The trip is set for May 2-7. Anyone who would like to donate or has questions may contact Mouser at the Belle High School via phone number 573-859-3800.
