Maries R-1 planning parade for VHS Class of 2020 members

The Maries R-1 School and the Vienna community are planning a special event for the members of the Vienna High School Senior Class of 2020. Last week the school announced a parade will be held for the class members on Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.

The school district reported the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department and local law enforcement will assist with the senior parade. It will use the same route through town as the annual Maries County Fair parade.

Because the CDC social/physical distancing guidelines need to be followed, each senior will be in the back of his/her parents’ truck or inside a car with their own sign that includes their name and the class of 2020. Each senior will be driven through the parade.

Members of the public are encouraged to park along the streets and honk horns/cheer for the seniors as they drive by.

Seniors and their parents are asked to be at school by 7:10 p.m. in order to be lined up for the parade route.

This should be a special night for VHS seniors and their parents who are anticipated to miss the traditional graduation originally (before the pandemic) scheduled for Sunday, May 10. “After everything they’ve been through, they need it and they deserve it,” the school district announced.

Those with questions may contact the school.
