Maries R-1 elementary students complete Child Safety Matters

Maries R-1 elementary students complete Child Safety Matters

VIENNA — Maries R-1 Elementary School Principal Shanda Snodgrass, at the school board’s December meeting, said the students in grades K-5 will all have completed the Child Safety Matters curriculum by the end of next week.

Snodgrass said the program gives students five safety rules that teach them what to do in unsafe situations including bullying, cyber bullying, child abuse and neglect, safety awareness, and recognizing safe adults. 

Also in her report, Snodgrass said the book fair has been completed and they rounded up the change this year which allowed for each grade level classroom teacher to pick out one book for their classroom. 

The school supported 22 families through the Giving Tree. All products have been distributed to families.

Snodgrass said school nurse Lindsay Otto has been completing hearing and vision screenings with several elementary classes. 

August/September Eagles of the Month awards for self confidence went to Della Rowden, Liam Cohlmia, Matthew Campbell, Jayne Hayes, Jimmy Hearst, Aniyah Griffin, Veronica Helton, Ella Wagner, Monica Russell, Marissa Fannon, Noah Rollins, Macie Rowden. 

October Eagles fo the month awards for empathy went to Nathan Wood, Gael Esquivel, Elayna Bresnahan, Leah Sandbothe, Aniaya Harris, Kyler Miller, Haley King, Bryleigh Oakes, Eli Messersmith, Harper Cohlmia, Raleigh Walker, Ethan Herigon. 

November Eagles of the Month awards for self control went to Micah Massman, Maebri Lanning, Dakota Hammond, Heidi Otto, Alaina Toebben, Josish Massman, Caleb Kempker, Gunther Rowden, Austin Bax, Addison Campbell, Lilly Williams, Hayden Heriford. 

Current enrollment for the elementary school is 237 students.

Snodgrass wished all those present Christmas blessings.
