VIENNA — The Maries R-1 Elementary School has joined the Food Bank Buddy Pack program and will receive the first delivery on March 26.
R-1 Elementary Principal Shanda Snodgrass gave her report to the school board at the March meeting and informed them about the school’s participation in the program that will provide 80 food packs go home with students in need each week. The food packs will be delivered to the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry in Vienna.
Snodgrass said this is a collaborative effort with the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri, Maries R-1 School which is coordinated by Shanda Snodgrass and Misty Weakly, the First Baptist Church of Vienna, coordinated by Vivian Honse, and Loaves & Fishes, coordinated by Sharon Wulff.
Also in her report, Snodgrass said they finally were able to celebrate Valentine’s Day with parties on Feb. 22. Every child in the elementary school received something “special” as deliveries were made in school.
The elementary promoted the school’s Back to School Fair through a Valentine fundraiser, which raised $640 for the Back to School Fair. The fundraiser was coordinated by Donna Haller, Sara Campbell, and Malinda Howard.
The students celebrated the 100th day of school on Feb. 5.
Snodgrass recognized students who received Eagle Pride awards. The students were Macie Rowden, Barron Haller, Josiah Massman, Jennifer Deeken, and Jimmy Hurst. February Eagles of the Month recognized for character trait cooperation were Brooklyn Robertson, Lillian Ingram, Aniyah Griffen, Barron Haller, Zane Wagner, Brayden Wieberg, Brooklyn Farrow, Tanner Hallahan, Noah Massman, Alana Mickem, Benjamin Murray, and Greyson Summerford.
Snodgrass said she has made the updates to the Elementary Handbook, which were required policy and staff updates. Policy updates were made to the prohibition against discrimination, harassment and retaliation policy, and a policy of prohibition against discrimination, harassment and retaliation grievance form.
She reported current elementary school enrollment of 234 students.
