Maries County Collector holds tax certificate sale

The annual tax certificate sale was held recently by Maries County Collector Jayne Williams. The sale was held on the front steps of the courthouse in Vienna with several bidders and other interested persons watching the sale.

There were four tracts of land sold at public auction as was necessary to discharge taxes, interests, penalties, and charges for delinquent taxes on the real estate. All of the tracts of land were located on the east side of Maries County. Each one had at least one bidder and all of them were sold on the courthouse steps that morning. 

Williams said the redemption period on the land is one year from the date of the sale. Tax certificates were issued to the successful bidders as provided by law.

For Tract 1, owned by James M. Campbell, et al, located in the Garstang Addition on S. Alvarado St. in Belle, the aggregate beginning asking price was $356.58. This amount included tax interest and penalties for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021 and also the fees on each of the tracts sold that day for certified mail, advertising, and recording fee totaling $100.90. This tract sold for $700 to Harold and Sharon French.

Tract 2 was owned by Missouri Department of Social Services Missouri Healthnet Division, seven and a half acres located at a St. James address. Tax interest and penalties owed on it were for the years 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 and adding in the costs totaled $1,509.89. There were multiple bidders. This tract was sold for $6,000 to Chasity Nunnery. 

Tract 3 was one from the Jimmy D. Shanks estate, a tract 150’ by 74’ located at 100 S Belle Avenue in Belle. Tax interest and penalties owed on it were from the years 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 and adding in costs the beginning asking price for the tract was $1,539.37. It was purchased for $1,539.37 by Chasity Nunnery. 

The final land to sell, Tract 4, 7.92 acres owned by Colin Watson and Damon Watson, is located  on MCR 337, Belle. Tax interest and penalties were from the years 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 and adding in costs the starting price was $188.19. This tract had several bidders and it was sold for $5,800 to Leonard Cepicky.
