Margaret “Margie” Ann Luebbert, 91, Meta, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.

She was born Aug. 3, 1928, to Dr. Henry Luetkemeyer and Regina (Dickneite) Luetkemeyer in Meta.

She was united in marriage Feb. 4, 1950, to the love of her life, Francis “Fritz” Luebbert, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. He preceded her in death April 3, 2016.

Margie attended and graduated from Meta High School. Following graduation, she worked for various businesses including Southwestern Bell in St. Louis, Neely Factory in Meta, McKay Buick in Jefferson City, Missouri Department of Civil Defense, Meta City Clerk, and had a successful 50 year career at Meta State Bank where she served as Vice President and Secretary of the Board.

She was a career woman before it was fashionable. Her banking career saw Meta State Bank/Mid America Bank grow from less than one million dollars to over four hundred million.  In her role as Vice-President of Meta State Bank, she was instrumental in helping local business grow.

She was a lifelong resident of Meta and through her dedication and love of her community, she helped foster numerous civic projects such as the Meta ballpark and Civic League Hall.  She was involved in the St. Cecilia Parish, Ladies Sodality and Meta Civic League.

Margie taught us all to put family first, always have a good time and that faith is the most important thing. She touched many lives with her generosity and her loving heart. No one was a stranger to Margie and everyone felt welcome in Meta at Margie and Fritz’s home on the hill. Sitting under the shade tree, having a beer and listening to the Cardinals are some of the things we will always remember and miss.

She was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Regina; husband, Fritz; infant great-granddaughter, Maggie Brandt; and brothers, Antone (Eileen), George (Cordula), Larry (JoAnn), Charles (Jane), and Jim Luetkemeyer.
