VIENNA — The Maries R-1 School District will have a new member when it meets later this month as Kacie James has won a position on the school board.

At the Municipal Election on April 5, James received 181 votes (27.93 percent), finishing second in the three-person contest for the two open three-year term positions on the R-1 school board.

Incumbent board member, Dave Long, won the most votes in the contest, with 224 votes or 34.57 percent. Incumbent Joseph Barnhart was close on the heels of James with 170 votes or 26.23 percent.

Also running unopposed for the one-year term position on the R-1 board was Matthew Novak, who received 257 votes, or 79.32 percent.

County Clerk Rhonda Rodgers reported a very smooth election day. She predicted a Maries County election turnout of 9.73 percent for Tuesday’s election. According to numbers on the unofficial results printout, 524 of the county’s 4,663 voters made the trip to the polls for a voter turnout of 11.24 percent.

Other school board elections on last Tuesday’s ballots in Maries County included Dixon R-1 and the St. James R-1 School District of Phelps County.

For Dixon R-1, there were three persons running for two positions on the school board. These were won by Zachary K. Shepherd who received 28 of those votes in Maries County, and Douglas W. Roam, who received 25 votes in Maries County. Derek A. Rollins received 27 votes in Maries County.

For St. James R-1 School, there were three persons running for two positions. These were won by Justin Lorts who had 37 votes in Maries County, and Tina Spurgeon who had 18 votes in Maries County. Also on that ballot was Sandra Bast who had 27 votes in Maries County.

In the Village of Argyle for the board of trustees, voters were instructed to vote for three but only two people filed for the positions up for election. Kym Brunnert and Felicia Wieberg  both received three votes in Maries County.
