Lewis Miller
1932 – 2024
Lewis James Miller, 92, of Dixon, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Lewis was born May 6, 1932, to Joseph “Paul” and Evelyn (Helton) Miller near Dixon.
After graduating from Dixon High School in 1950, Lewis worked with his dad hauling livestock from Dixon and surrounding towns to the stockyards in East St. Louis. In 1960, he went to work for Howard Sand and Gravel as a high loader operator and worked for 34 years until retirement in 1994. After retirement, he worked for the Mid America Bank and Trust, driving money to and from the Dixon bank to the St. Robert Bank.
Lewis married the love of his life, Carol Ann Rowden, Oct. 9, 1954. Lewis and Carol were the proud parents of three children, Danny Lewis, Kenny Wayne, and Susan Carol. Lewis and Carol were lifelong lovers of Bluegrass music and traveled throughout Missouri and surrounding states attending Bluegrass shows and festivals. Lewis spent many years working the gate at the Dixon Bluegrass Music Festival and subsequently met and made lifelong friends. Lewis and Carol also enjoyed traveling with family and friends to various locations, including Tennessee, Hawaii, Colorado, Vermont, and New York.
Lewis was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Evelyn; brother, Billy Miller; and son, Kenny Miller.
He is survived by wife of 69 years, Carol of the home; son, Danny Miller and wife Lisa; daughter, Susan Williamson and husband John; daughter-in-law, Debbie Miller; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kayla) Miller, Britny (Stephen) Washburn, Ryan (Annelise) Hollis, Missy Miller, Emily (Will) Holtsclaw, Alex (Haley) Miller, John (Missy) Williamson, Jeff Williamson, Keith (Sherry) Williamson; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Lewis was a really wonderful son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend.
Services for Lewis will be held at the First Baptist Church of Dixon on Thursday, Aug. 15, with visitation from 9–11 a.m., funeral service following at 11 a.m. with Lewis’ nephew Kevin Rowden officiating. Interment will follow in the Dixon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dixon Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
