Leslie Singleton Darr, Jr., 75, Iberia, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Maries Manor in Vienna.

He was born March 22, 1950, to the late Leslie S. Darr, Sr. and Halley Maxine (Dean) Darr Shelton.

He was united in marriage to Janet Lee Machon, June 30, 2001.

Leslie was an active member of his community, serving as mayor in Vienna for over 20 years, president of the UAW for 22 years, and pastored for various churches in the surrounding rural area for several years.

Leslie dedicated much of his life to serving in law enforcement, working as deputy sheriff for Maries County and later for Cole County.  He was also employed as a security guard at the National Guard Armory. 

Leslie was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan with a passion for playing cards, hunting, riding horses, and caring for his treasured mule, Jane. 

He was a devoted member of Mt. Gilead Church in Iberia and was known for his unwavering faith and dedication as a Christian. Leslie was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer support in any way he could. His legacy of kindness and his gentle heart will be cherished by all who were blessed to know him.   

Leslie was preceded in death by parents, Leslie, Sr. and Halley; sister, Delores Quinn; and brothers, David and Bryce Darr. 

He is survived by loving wife, Janet; children, Renee Maples and husband Dwayne and Justin Darr and wife Cheri; step-children, Jody Vance and husband Sam, Angela Dusenberry, Gari Luttrell and husband Scotty and Ronnie Plemmons and wife Shasta; grandchildren, Daniel, Meghan, Jessica, Sarah and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Asher, Cayde, Koe and Banks; step-grandchildren, Josh, Hailey, Perry, Riley, Mason, Jordan, Travin and Tanner; step-great-grandchildren,Wesley, Sadie, Maggie, Tillie, Gentry, Morgan, Beau and Josie; and sister, Barbara Hodges. 

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 12, with funeral service immediately following at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Elton Dake officiating.  Inurnment will be held in Jim-Matt Lawson Cemetery at a later date. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Gilead Church.
