Lawson Magner breaks two-mile course record for VMS Cross Country at Dixon

Ending their season back on Columbus Day at the Dixon Invitational, Vienna Middle School cross country runners left Oak Hills Country Club in Dixon with five medals following both middle school races in the Dixon Cross Country Invitational.

Placing second in a time of 11:43, VMS eighth-grader Lawson Magner set a new two-mile course record for the Eagles with his time at Dixon.

Magner was not the only VMS Eagle in the medals for their top-20 finishes.

Ethan Rex earned a medal with his 16th-place time of 14:12.64 to go along with Alberto Esquivel’s 19th-place time of 14:28.37.

Thomas Douglas finished three spots shy of a medal posting a 23rd-place time of 15:04.42.

For the VMS Lady Eagle duo of Larissa Magner and Kaylee Bresnahan, it was a successful ending to their season.

Magner left Dixon with a medal following her 12th-place time of 14:30.47 while Bresnahan also medaled with a 16th-place time of 14:55.52.

In high-school racing at Dixon, a total of 11 Maries County harriers left Pulaski County with medals around their necks.

In the varsity boy’s race, a pair of Vienna Eagles and Belle Tigers all earned medals for their top-20 finishes.

Eagle sophomore Duncan Wilkinson led the county contingency with a fourth-place time of 18:55.96.

Belle’s Tiger duo of Corey McDaniel (6th, 19:19.87) and Baylar Smith (7th, 19:31.92) also left Dixon with medals for their top-seven finishes.

VHS freshman Cooper Auten rounded out the list of county medalists placing 16th in 21:23.69.

Eagles also helping Vienna place fourth as a team were Kamden George (23rd), Jackson Kilmer (27th) and Danniel Casey (28th).

In the varsity girl’s race, all seven Maries County runners finished 18th or better to earn medals.

Belle sophomore Natalie Gehlert led the county with a fourth-place time of 24:14.54 followed by fellow Lady Tiger Tajel McDaniel’s sixth-place time of 25:21.72.

Lady Eagle junior Danielle Murphy led VHS’ quintet of medalists with an 11th-place time of 27:32.83.

Also helping Vienna (29) place second as a team behind Conway (26) were Alia Terwilliger (12th, 27:50.46), Ava Kloeppel (13th, 28:57.84), Madeleine Novak (16th, 29:55.61) and Andrea Novak (18th, 31:22.81).

Belle and Vienna runners will compete Friday in Steelville at the GVC Cross Country meet.
