Opening 2021 on a three-game losing streak, Jason Kampeter’s Vienna Lady Eagle basketball team hoped some home cooking would put a stop to it.

Falling to Tuscumbia 51-33 last Tuesday at home, the Lady Eagles got another shot at a two days later against Versailles’ Lady Tigers.

Taking a 32-15 lead into halftime, Vienna was able to maintain that lead throughout the second half of their 63-51 victory Thursday night over Versailles.

Leading all scorers, Vienna’s Marsie Messersmith poured in a game-high 25 points against the Lady Tigers.

Kadence George closely followed her with 22 points in addition to 15 rebounds, five steals and five assists.

Jada Kleffner added eight points while Terra Huffman chipped in six points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Karissa Feeler capped Vienna’s scoring against Versailles with a fourth-quarter free throw for one point in addition to grabbing nine rebounds.

Against Tuscumbia, Vienna trailed 27-20 at halftime before running out of gas in the second half against the Lady Lions.

“We played well but we simply ran out of energy down the stretch,” Kampeter said.

George led Vienna and all scorers against Tuscumbia with a game-high double double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Huffman just missed the double double club finishing with eight points and eight rebounds against the Lady Lions.

Messersmith added six points while Kleffner finished with two points.

Vienna will compete this week at the Russellville Tournament before kicking off February at the Newburg Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament.
