Dispatching Lutheran South (8-1) and Pacific (10-3) earlier in the day, Jessica Gibbs’ Vienna Lady Eagle softball team took on the host Owensville Dutchgirls Saturday afternoon in Gasconade County looking for their second tournament title in as many weekends after winning their home tournament the previous Saturday at Vienna City Park.
Withstanding a late Dutchgirl rally in the fifth inning, Vienna held on for a 5-3 victory over the host school clinching their second tournament title in as many weekends.
Against Owensville, Vienna got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Aubrey Rehmert walked and scored after stealing home for an early 1-0 Lady Eagle lead.
After the Dutchgirls tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning, Vienna had an answer in the bottom half of the third.
Rehmert doubled and scored on a subsequent RBI double off the bat of Ella Hollis putting the Lady Eagles back in front 2-1.
Marissa Hollis then lifted a RBI sacrifice fly to center field scoring Ella for a 3-1 Vienna lead.
Aubrey Schwartze capped Vienna’s three-run bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to center field for a 4-1 Lady Eagle lead.
Hannah Keeney answered with a two-run home run for Owensville in the top of the fifth inning cutting Vienna’s lead to 4-3.
Armed with another answer in the bottom of the fifth inning, Rehmert tripled and scored on a Schwartze RBI sacrifice fly giving the Lady Eagles their final margin of victory.
Delaney Schwartze earned the complete-game win in the circle pitching six innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks to go with six strikeouts.
Scoring twice in the first and fourth innings along with three times in the second and sixth innings, Vienna never trailed throughout the entirety of their 10-3 Owensville Tournament victory over Pacific.
Finishing a home run shy of the cycle, Ella Hollis recorded four hits, two runs scored and six runs batted in (RBI).
Addie James earned the win against Pacific allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks to go with six strikeouts.
Opening the Owensville Tournament Saturday morning against Lutheran South, Vienna scored seven runs over the first two innings giving them more than enough offense for the victory.
Aubrey Schwartze had a hit, two runs scored and four RBIs to lead the Lady Eagles in a black-and-gold showdown against the Lady Lancers.
Ella Hollis also banged out three hits while Rehmert homered for one of her two hits while also scoring three runs.
Prior to the Owensville Tournament, Vienna scored 15 second-inning runs last Thursday during an 18-0 victory in three innings over Newburg’s Lady Wolves at Vienna City Park.
Rehmert had two triples and a double while scoring three runs for Vienna against Newburg.
Ella Hollis added two hits, two runs scored and five RBIs while Aubrey Schwartze and Kenna Roberds each had two hits and two runs scored.
Savannah Perkins also had two hits and two runs scored to go along with two hits and four RBIs from James.
Jezabel Bordonaba also walked three times and scored a run for Vienna.
Vienna was scheduled to resume Show-Me Central Conference (SMCC) play Monday night against St. Elizabeth but saw that game postponed due to rain and wet field conditions.
It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m., at Vienna City Park.
