DIXON — Highway 28 redemption.

That was the goal Friday night for Bland’s Lady Bears on the road at Dixon Middle School against the host Lady Bulldogs.

Losing both matches to Owensville just over a week ago, Bland volleyball teams coached by Kaci Jones looked to get back in the win column against Highway 28 foes.

Taking game one 25-22, Bland’s seventh-grade Lady Bears appeared on their way to a two-set victory.

Dixon took the second set 25-23 before taking game three and the match 25-22, 23-25 and 25-12.

Trailing 14-9 midway through game one, Payton Doss served the next six points which included two aces helping the Lady Bears to a 15-14 lead.

Now trailing 22-21 late in game one, a Dixon service error sent Skylee Railey behind the serving line.

Serving three of the next four points for aces, Railey helped the Lady Bears take game one from Dixon.

Picking up where she left off, Railey served three more aces giving Bland an early 4-1 lead in game two.

Four Doss service points later in game two helped Bland to a 12-8 lead.

Doss also served three more points later in the set tying it at 22-22 before a pair of Lady Bear errors led to Dixon taking game two.

Aubrey Reed recorded three aces in game three giving Bland an early 4-1 lead.

Seeing Dixon score nine of the next 11 points, Bland wound up dropping the match in three sets.

Lady Bears each recording one kill in the seventh-grade match included Madelynn Rhoads, Reed, Doss and Railey.

Last Thursday, Bland also went three sets in seventh-grade action at Cuba falling to the Lady Wildcats 22-25, 25-8 and 15-6.

Looking to pick up their seventh-grade counterparts, Bland’s eighth-grade Lady Bears hit the court against Dixon.

Building up double-digit leads midway through both sets, Bland claimed the eighth-grade match in two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-5.

Lydia Jones served the first six points of game one including three aces.

Piper Marsee added a pair of aces later in the set bumping the Bland lead to 11-2.

Zoe Camden served up four aces in a row pushing the Lady Bear lead to 16-4 over the host Lady Bulldogs.

Jones and Marsee each recorded a pair of service points helping Bland close out game one.

Game two started with a Marsee kill before Jones served the next three points for a 4-0 Bland lead.

After a pair of Marsee aces, Camden caught fire recording 10 aces over 14 points giving the Lady Bears a commanding 23-3 lead.

Chloe Jones ended the match with a service point giving Bland the win in two sets, 25-11 and 25-5.

Chloe Jones finished with three kills followed by Nolie Finnegan and Camden with two apiece.

Bland swept Cuba last Thursday night on the road in two sets 25-20 and 25-22.

Monday night in a quasi Gasconade County volleyball showdown at Hermann, Bland’s Lady Bears saw mixed results.

Bland dropped the seventh-grade match in two sets 25-14 and 25-20 while the eighth-grade Lady Bears defeated Hermann in two sets 25-11 and 25-17.

After a road match tomorrow (Thursday) in Bourbon, Bland’s seventh-grade Lady Bears will return to Warhawk land in order to compete in the Bourbon 7th Grade Volleyball Tournament.

Bland will open their portion of the tournament Saturday at 10 a.m., against Cuba’s Lady Wildcats before beginning the afternoon portion of their day at 12:15 p.m., against the host Lady Warhawks.

At 1 p.m., Bland will continue round-robin competition against Steelville before facing St. James at 3:15 p.m.

The top two teams will then face off for the tournament championship at 4 p.m.
