Crowned Homecoming King earlier in the evening, Belle Tiger senior Lane Feeler decided that wasn’t enough to highlight the beginning of his senior season of basketball.

Tied at 59-59 with :11 ticks remaining against Maranatha Baptist Academy’s Warriors, Feeler took the ball to the elbow and hit the game-winning shot with :02 left giving his Tiger basketball team a very memorable 61-59 homecoming victory Thursday night.

“They battled and didn’t quit,” Belle Tiger head basketball coach Chris Feeler said. “It wasn’t all about one guy tonight, we had several players step up and hit big shots throughout the game.”

Trailing 2-0 to open the game, Belle quickly erased that deficit going on a 15-0 run started by a Justin Lingo bucket and ended by a Thomas Lingo basket at the 4:38 mark of the first quarter.

Playing the final 4:38 to an 8-8 tie, Belle took a 23-10 lead over the visiting Warriors into the second quarter.

“We did what we wanted to in the first quarter moving the ball well and hitting some shots,” Feeler said.

Outscored 23-14 in the second quarter, Belle saw Maranatha Baptist trim their lead to four by a 37-33 score at halftime.

Justin Lingo led the Tigers with eight first-half points.

Battling through two ties and seven lead changes in the third quarter, a Justin Lingo 3-pointer with :35 for the quarter gave Belle a 51-50 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Able to edge the Warriors 10-9 during the final eight minutes, Belle opened their season with a homecoming victory.

Feeler led four Tigers in double figures with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Gentry Dunn knocked down three 3-pointers helping him chip in 12 points for Belle.

Justin (11) and Thomas (10) Lingo also both reached double figures in scoring for the Tigers.

Saddled with foul trouble, Jace Gieck added a near double double effort of seven points and eight rebounds.

Shane Baumgartner rounded out Belle’s scoring with all five of his points in the second quarter.

Jacob Walton’s Belle JV Tigers outscored Maranatha Baptist 16-6 in the second quarter before gradually pulling away in the second half of their 56-25 season-opening victory over the visiting Warriors.

Sam Willis led the victorious JV Tigers with a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. He also added three steals and two blocked shots.

Cole Loughridge also joined Willis in double figures with 10 points and five rebounds.

Kaiden Robertson and Brayden Cadwallader just missed double figures scoring eight points each.

Talton Lange scored all five of his points in the first half followed by three points from Baylar Smith.

Logan Stratman, Myles Butler and Tayln Litton each added two points for Belle’s JV Tigers.
