In spite of seeing her season end due to a knee injury during the first round of districts against Crocker, Vienna junior Kadence George earned some postseason recognition from the coaches in the Class 2, District 9 girls basketball tournament field.

George was one of 10 players selected to the Class 2, District 9 Girls Basketball Tournament All-Tournament Team as voted on by coaches from Richland, Plato, Laquey, Newburg, Stoutland, Crocker and Vienna.

Joining George on the All-District team were Katelyn Cole (Richland), Miranda Moss (Richland), Claire Affolter (Newburg), Cara Couch (Plato), Skyeler Layman (Crocker), Megan Becker (Crocker), Kelsey Todd (Plato), Kailyn Stradt (Stoutland) and Briar Sayer (Laquey).

Richland’s Nancy Ward was chosen as the district coach of the year leading the Lady Bears to the district title.

Seeing their season end at 6-15, three opponents of Vienna Lady Eagle basketball will continue their season tonight (Wednesday) in sectional games throughout the state.

Steelville’s Lady Cardinals claimed the Class 3, District 9 title and will host Strafford’s Lady Indians at Steelville High School. Steelville defeated Vienna back on Jan. 18.

Tipton’s Lady Cardinals will travel to South Callaway to face the Lady Bulldogs after claiming the Class 3, District 8 title. Vienna fell to Tipton during their season opener in the first round of the Tipton Girls Basketball Tournament.

Eugene will face Harrisburg on the road in a Class 2 sectional. Vienna lost to Eugene in the first round of the Russellville Tournament back in late January.
