JV Eagle basketball claims consolation hardware at Dixon

Falling 58-22 in their Dixon JV Tournament opener against the host Bulldogs, Tim Simmons’ Vienna JV Eagles advanced their way to last Thursday’s consolation championship game against Richland following a 51-39 victory over Laquey in last Wednesday’s consolation semifinals.

Taking on Richland’s JV Bears last Thursday in the consolation title game, Vienna turned a 7-6 first-quarter deficit into a 29-9 halftime lead before going on to post a 58-28 victory.

Jaiden Hayes led the JV Eagles with 15 points followed in double figures by Chase Weeks with 10 points.

Talan Reeves and Eli Crum nearly made it four double-digit scorers for Vienna finishing with eight points apiece.

Bryce Ewers added seven points followed closely by Dylan Long with six points.

Wyatt Wulff and Colton Wiles rounded out Vienna’s scoring against Richland with two points each.

Leading 27-21 at halftime of the consolation semifinals against Laquey, Vienna outscored the JV Hornets 24-18 in the second half of their 51-39 victory.

Crum led Vienna scoring 11 of his team-high 15 points in the second half.

Ewers also reached double figures for the JV Eagles against Laquey with 10 points.

Long just missed making it three Eagles in double digits finishing with nine points.

Tyler Hallahan netted five of his eight points in the second half.

Hayes added all four of his points in the first quarter while Reeves and Wiles each chipped in two points.

Wulff rounded out Vienna’s scoring against Laquey with a second-quarter free throw for one point.

Hunter Neff and Ross Brothers each led the JV Hornets with nine points.

Dixon went on to win the tournament with a victory over St. Elizabeth in the championship game while Laquey fell in the seventh-place game against Crocker.

Simmons’ JV Eagles will close the 2024 portion of their season Friday night hosting Chamois’ Pirates in pink out action at Vienna High School’s Allen Gymnasium.
