The Research Room operated by the Historical Society of Maries County (HSMC) will reopen to the public effective Wednesday, April 7.
HSMC President Lisa Jones made the announcement last week. The Research Room, which is located in the basement of the Maries County Courthouse in Vienna, was closed in late 2020 because of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
It will reopen April 7 and will be open every Wednesday after from 1 to 4 p.m. The Research Room is a valuable tool for genealogy research and history enthusiasts. It is a Maries County archive which contains thousands of historical pieces, from old county newspapers, school yearbooks, tax and probate records, family histories and much, much more.
It is staffed by volunteers. For 2021, those volunteers include: Rita Henderson, Therese Roberson, Linda Honse, Mick James, Jim and Judy Parker, Sharon Wulff, Lisa Jones, Terry Schwartze, Glenda Baxter, Jane Honse, Kay Swarthout, Toni Davis, Nina Stratman, Debbie Deeken, John Allen, and Kathleen Steuber.
