The Historical Society of Maries County (HSMC) was privileged to receive a $1,000 grant from the Three Rivers Helping Hands Community Foundation on Wednesday, March 7, 2022. This grant will directly provide archival materials to preserve photographs and documents in the Research Room, and to purchase inventory materials for the Old Jail Museum, the Felker House, Maries County Building and Hollenbeck House.
“As we continue our quest to make much-needed upgrades in the Research Room, we quickly learned there was much to be done to protect aging documents and photographs housed there,” said HSMC President, Lisa Jones. “Unfortunately, archival materials are expensive. In addition, after the theft at the Old Jail Museum in 2020, we wanted to update the inventory system used previously in all buildings, again an expensive endeavor. Fortunately, with this grant from Three Rivers Helping Hands Community Foundation, we will be able to do both. This will have a lasting impact on our ability to preserve the documents, photographs and memorabilia that represent our Maries County history. We are truly grateful to Three Rivers for this generous endowment.”
The Three Rivers Helping Hands Community Foundation was created to assist individuals with catastrophic illness or medical needs, to assist with disaster relief, assist community service providers in their efforts to improve the quality of life in neighborhoods and communities, and to assist emergency service providers in their efforts to improve the service and support for their community’s health, safety and well-being.
