Gregory Otto Sankey, Jr., 82, Freeburg, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, Jefferson City.

He was born Aug. 3, 1939, to Gregory Otto Sr. and Marie Cecila (Schulte) Sankey in Jefferson City.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1957–1959.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Clara Falter, Nov. 19, 1960, in Freeburg.

Greg was a 1957 graduate of Fatima High School, Westphalia, and attended the Graham School of Cattlemen in 1974. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Koeltztown, and a member of the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council 2047.

He was employed by Probst Construction, Jefferson City, Burk Bridge Company, Springfield, and Davis Construction, Boonville. He became owner and operator of a grade A dairy farm from 1972–1992. Greg was owner and operator of G&M Enterprises, Freeburg. He worked for Burns Security, Jefferson City, and Scholastic, Inc., Jefferson City, until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by parents Gregory and Marie; wife of 61 years, Margaret; son Keith Jerome Sankey; and brothers infant Herbert Francis Sankey and Jerome Norbert Sankey.

He is survived by sons David Sankey and wife Karen of Argyle, and Glenn Sankey and wife Christy of Koeltztown; daughter Carol Jones and husband Larry of Koeltztown; daughter-in-law Cara Sankey of Freeburg; eight grandchildren and six step-grandchildren; sisters Delores Scheppers and husband Joseph of Westphalia, Bernice Schroeder and husband George of Argyle; brothers and sisters-in-law Harold Falter and wife Judy of Freeburg, and Marita Wansing and husband Danny of Dixon.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, June 14, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Koeltztown. Interment with full military honors was in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Koeltztown.

Memorials suggested for Masses or to the St. Boniface Endowment Fund.
