Gerard Joseph Wieberg, 83, passed peacefully Aug. 27, 2024, at Heisinger Bluffs, Jefferson City.

He was born Dec. 8, 1940, to George and Gertrude (Schwartze) Wieberg near Freeburg.

He attended the Renneke Country School and graduated from Vienna High School in 1958.

Gerard entered active federal service in the U.S. Army Oct. 9, 1962, at St. Louis, and served until Sept. 19, 1964, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Hamilton, N.Y., at the rank of Technical Sergeant (SP4 E-4 (T)). He served as a radio operator in Germany during the Vietnam War.

He worked for the Missouri Highway Department from 1964–66. Gerard was then a full-time farmer on the family farm.

He was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg as well as a member of the Msgr. Gerold Kaiser Council #9700 of the Knights of Columbus serving as a Grand Knight and was a 3rd Degree Knight; the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial Post 317; the MFA Board; Water District Board; and the Fire Department Board.

Gerard was preceded in death by parents, George and Gertrude; brothers, Virgil Wieberg and Arnold Wieberg; sister, Marceline Faulkner; nephew, Chris Wieberg; and brothers-in-law, Warren James “Jim” Collins and Maynard Faulkner.

He is survived by siblings, Alvina Collins of  St. Peters, Fred Wieberg and wife Phyllis of Freeburg, and Felix Wieberg and wife Laura of Holts Summit; sisters-in-law, Joyce Wieberg of Wardsville, and Mildred “Millie” Wieberg of Freeburg; brother-in-law, Bob Luebbert of Jefferson City; and 17 nephews and nieces.

A Rosary prayer service will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at 8:30 a.m.,  followed by visitation from 9–11 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 a.m., all in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with Father William Debo as celebrant.

Interment with full military honors will be held in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Freeburg. .

In Lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or School.
