George Richard Holtmeyer, 79, St. Elizabeth, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at his home. 

He was born Dec. 12, 1944, to the late Alphonse John and Regina Katerina (Luebbert) Holtmeyer in Tuscumbia.

He was a life-long resident of St. Elizabeth. 

George honorably served his country in the

U. S. Army Reserves for several years. 

He was employed as manager with the MFA of St. Elizabeth from March of 1965 until October of 1998 (33 years).  After retiring from the MFA, he worked for Quaker Windows in Freeburg. 

George was an avid fan of the three B’s of sports – baseball, basketball and bowling.  For many years he was a member of the Charleytown Men’s Bowling League.  In addition to serving as their bowling league’s secretary for 28 years he also served as secretary of the Jefferson City Bowling Association. 

George took great pride in his farm and enjoyed playing cards.  He was an original member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6640 in St. Elizabeth that was established Dec. 9, 1974 and also a faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. 

George was preceded in death by parents,  Alphonse and Regina; addition to his parents; brother, Raymond Holtmeyer; infant brother, Alfred Holtmeyer; two nieces; and two nephews. 

He is survived by siblings, Joann Feltrop and husband Richard  and Helen Branch and husband James, all of Jefferson City, Leonard Holtmeyer and wife Liz and Bernice Holtmeyer all of St. Elizabeth, Irene Schaben and husband Kenny of Meta and Mildred Musick and friend Mike Cunningham of Aurora; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

Visitation will be held from 9 until 11 a.m., (today) Wednesday, Oct. 23, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth with Fr. Christopher Aubuchon officiating.  Interment with military honors will be held in St. Lawrence Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions suggested to the St. Elizabeth Knights of Columbus.
